For ages 5 – 7

Music Starts Here

This beginner’s programme is the perfect introduction into music. Through 45 minutes of group play each Saturday, children will explore different instruments and their own musicality, develop language and communication skills, grow in confidence and increase their ability to express themselves, in a supportive and safe environment. All children on the Music Starts Here programme also have the option of 1:1 instrumental lessons with our fantastic tutors.

The Music Starts Here programme runs from 9.30am – 10.15am for ages 5 – 6 and 10.20am – 11.05am for ages 6 – 8, during Saturday term time.


For ages 7 – 9

Prelude Programme

Comprised of 5 x 30 minute workshops, covering ukulele, band, general musicianship, history of music and singing. Suitable for beginners or those who want to progress from the Music Starts Here programme, who would like to build confidence, musicality and ensemble playing.

The Prelude Programme runs from 9.30am – 12.30pm, during Saturday term time.


For ages 9 – 18

Core Programme

Whether you simply want to spend a few hours making music with newfound friends, or are thinking about taking your passion for music a step further, you can be sure to ignite your creativity and have lots of fun, whilst learning from top practitioners and industry professionals.

You will be put into a group depending on the information stated on your application form, to ensure that sessions are tailored to your experience. Sessions will cover multiple genres and styles, including classical, jazz, rock & pop and singing.

Timings for the Core Programme are subject to the classes chosen. Most students following the Core Programme attend from 9.15am – 1.00pm each Saturday.

Individual tuition

We also offer 1:1 lessons of 30 minutes or 45 minutes with our fantastic specialist tutors in any of the above.

Ensembles only programme

You can also join our ensembles only programme by choosing two group workshops (45 minutes each) in the instruments/sessions listed above. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy playing with others whilst still benefiting from the expert tuition at Guildhall Young Artists Taunton (GYA Taunton).


Drama Membership

For ages 9 – 18

New to Guildhall Young Artists Taunton for autumn 2021, our drama programme is for anyone with a passion for acting. Led by theatre director and practitioner Sarah-Jane Cross, you can look forward to a range of drama tuition including drama games, exercises, voice work, improvisation, script work, character development, movement and audition preparation. There will also be plenty of opportunities for performances, for those who want to.

Whether you simply want to get a taste for acting or are thinking about taking your passion further, you can expect to grow in confidence, make new friends and have a lot of fun.

Our drama classes run at the following times:

Age 5 – 11: 12.30pm – 1.00pm

Age 12 – 18: 1.45pm – 2.30pm

All members of Guildhall Young Artists Taunton also have access to the following exciting resources and opportunities:

  • Workshops by visiting artists from Guildhall School and the industry
  • Access to additional online classes and workshops with professional musicians
  • Support for GCSE/A Level music students and music technology/production
  • Use of Guildhall School’s streaming platform to access recorded performances
  • The opportunity to take part in musical activities with other centres across the UK
  • Support for those wishing to pursue their musical studies to higher education level

Guildhall Young Artists

When you attend GYA Taunton, you will become a Guildhall Young Artists member. This means that you’ll be able to benefit from exclusive opportunities, performances and workshops, including competitions, invites to concerts and gigs and performances from students at Guildhall School. By becoming a part of a national network, members will be able to connect and collaborate with like-minded individuals across the country.

Fees and bursaries:
